Rhys Chatham is a composer, guitarist and trumpet player who was the first music director of The Kitchen in 1971. He studied under La Monte Young and Morton Subotnick. Influenced by minimalist, experimental, electronic music and punk rock, Chatham has collaborated with artists across genres, including but not limited to Glenn Branca, Karole Armitage, and Robert Longo.
