The Feelies are an American rock band iconic of the No Wave music scene in New York in the late 1970s and 1980s. Founded in 1976 in suburban Haledon, NJ their name references a fictional entertainment device described in Aldous Huxley's book Brave New World. Their debut album Crazy Rhythms (1980) exemplified their manic melodies, layered rhythms, and opaque lyrics. Although it received little critical attention it notably went on to influence countless bands, notably R.E.M. The Feelies played in New York City clubs and frequently performed at Maxwell's, where they played their final concert in 1991. The band reunited in 2008 and later released a new album Here Before. They continue to play together and make new music.
