Nam June Paik was a seminal artist in the late 20th century working with and within a variety of materials and movements. Paik is best known for his pioneering work within the Neo-dada and Fluxus movements and video art. Born in Seoul North Korea, Paik studied music history at Munich University where he was introduced to the conceptual work of Joseph Bueys and Wolf Vostell and composer John Cage. After moving to New York in 1964 began collaborating with classical cellest Charlotte Moorman which incorporated music, video and performance. Many such performances were given at The Kitchen between 1972-1973. Paik remained active at The Kitchen through the 1970s-1990s, participating in both solo and group events.
