Film theorist Peter Wollen (1938 - ) is best known for introducing structuralism and semiotics into the cannon of cinema studies. Although regarded for his critical writings, Wollen has also written and directed films such as Riddles of the Sphinx (1977), in collaboration with Laura Mulvey, and Friendship's Death (1987). In 1980, Wollen spoke on the artistic experience of television and the technological reproducibility of its form at The Kitchen's panel series "Society, Television, and Art."
