Sylvere Lotringer (1938 - ) is a cultural theorist and literary critic, influential for his application of French theory to American avant-garde movements. In 1974, Lotringer founded Semiotext(e), a journal that would bring together polemical and innovative ideas from a variety of sources both academic and counter-culture. Lotringer participated in The Kitchen's 1980 panel series on “Television, Society, and Art,” discussing the television’s potential both for mass communication and for ideological indoctrination.
