James Benning

James Benning is an American visual artist, director, editor, and independent filmmaker. His works consider the American landscape and its social history using formal and durational methods. In 1985, Benning’s work, Pascal’s Lemma, was screened at The Kitchen. This piece mixed video footage, data, text, and images. In 1988, Benning’s collaboration with Burt Barr, O-Panama was screened during The Kitchen’s Extant Work video series.
