Susan Sontag (1933- - 2004) was a human-rights activist and critic in the fields of literature, film, and art. Her writing has appeared in magazines and publications including The New York Times, The New Yorker, Art in America, and The Nation. In addition to her prolific critical work, Sontag authored four novels, as well as writing and directing numerous plays and movies. Sontag was a panelist at The Kitchen's 1980 lecture series “Television, Society, and Art,” discussing television as a mode of experiencing art in modern technological society.
