Molissa Fenley is a dancer and choreographer known for her physically ambitious dance style and collaborative work with a wide range of artists. Since graduating from Mills in 1975, Fenley has constructed and performed around the world an exhaustive body of work both solo and with her ensembles. Her chosen musical backing has run the gamut from modern composers such as Philip Glass and Alvin Curran to, in the case of her revered solo work State Of Darkness (1988), Igor Stravinsky. The Kitchen commissioned one of her first pieces (Mix, 1979) and she has presented work here as recently as 2004 (New Work for Ensemble/Hemispheres).
