“Blue” Gene Tyranny, born Robert Nathan Sheff, is a composer and pianist. Tyranny has toured with Iggy Pop and The Stooges, and Carla Bley, while appearing on albums by Laurie Anderson, David Behrman, John Cage, Peter Gordon and Robert Ashley, with whom he frequently collaborates. Tyranny was the a recipient of a Bessie in 1988 and a Composer Fellowship from the NY Foundation for the Arts in 1989.
