Warsaw and New York-based artist Agnieszka Kurant works in a variety of mediums, primarily installation, sculpture, and film. She resides, conceptually, at the intersections of art, science, and philosophy, exploring how various immaterial entities—be they narrative fictions, digital networks, or data ownership—come to accrue political and economic value. Kurant thus renders the complex systems that she calls “phantoms” visible, texturing these critical concerns with a contestation of individual authorship that manifests instead in a model of a dispersed and collective creator. Kurant’s work was included in The Kitchen’s 2016 exhibition “From Minimalism into Algorithm,” and she has participated in panel discussions as part of The Kitchen’s L.A.B. series.
