Barbara Kruger

Barbara Kruger (b. 1945 in New Jersey) is an American conceptual artist. Much of her work consists of black and white photographs overlaid with white-on-red text that addresses cultural constructions of power, identity, and sexuality. In 1981 she curated the show ‘Pictures and Promises’ at The Kitchen that examined messages relayed through advertising, print media, and film.
