Adam Helms investigates the nature of political and social identities using Western icons and historical portraits, which he finds through archival research. Drawings, screen prints, assemblages, and installations blur the difference between past and contemporary events by incorporating historical documents into the work and questioning the institutional framework of artifacts. His documentation of iconography and subcultures reveals the violent and ominous look of the masked forces acting against the system. Helms’s art appeared in The Kitchen group exhibition JUST KICK IT TILL IT BREAKS in 2007.
