Stephen Vitiello is an electronic musician and sound artist. He is interested in the physical aspect of sound and its ability to define space. In his practice, he captures incidental atmospheric sounds and he turns them into environments. During his career, he has collaborated with artists such as Dara Birnbaum, Joan Jonas, Pauline Oliveros, Tony Oursler, and Nam June Paik. He has received many awards, among which the Guggenheim Fellowship for Fine Arts in 2011. His work appeared in The Kitchen group exhibition Between Thought and Sound in 2007, and he worked as The Kitchen’s Media Archivist in the early 2000s.
