Simone Leigh is an American contemporary visual artist based in Crown Heights. Leigh’s work explores black female subjectivity through sculpture, videos and installations informed by her interest in African art, ethnographic research, feminism and performance. She is a recipient of numerous awards and grants, most notably the Guggenheim Fellowship, the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award and a Creative Time Grant, she has shown her work internationally. She was included in a group show at The Kitchen called The Future As Disruption in 2008 and had a solo show at The Kitchen entitled You Don’t Know Where Her Mouth Has Been in 2012.
