Jeff McMahon's performative style blends elements of motion, text, and new media to confront and question the way people communicate and interact. In 1979, he moved to New York where he has produced work exploring forms such as contact improvisation, singing, dance, and non-fiction. McMahon is an eight-time awardee of the National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, and has performed at venues including Jacob's Pillow, MoMA PS 1, and The Kitchen. In 1984, McMahon performed at The Kitchen's Almost Dance performance series, sharing a work-in-progress entitled Rigged which was later to become a chapter in the larger work Your Helping Hand.
