Jaya Howey is an abstract painter, living and working in Brooklyn, NY. He is well known for his graphic paintings that incorporate cartoon-like imagery, often in a humorous and self-deprecating manner. Using a graphic draftsmanship Howey layers text message bubbles, comical animals, and appropriated signage to explore the ultimate inability of the artist to express the chaos of human emotions. He was a part of the group exhibition at The Kitchen in 2009, "Besides, With, Against, and Yet: Abstraction and the Ready-Made Gesture".
