BANANAS

This solo exhibition by Sara Greenberg Rafferty investigated the tension between futility and agency, as well as the imaginary and the everyday, by focusing on the roles to which individual subjects are reduced. Drawing from linguistic tropes with food references addressing embarrassment and humiliation, Rafferty created a large conceptual vocabulary of “short stories” on cooking, women, and stand-up comedy. The individual works are the result of color studies and are meant to function as comedians, arousing funny reactions. BANANAS was curated by Matthew Lyons.
