The Visitors

This Jose Alvarez exhibition investigated mysticism, spirituality, science, magic, and the construction of beliefs through a selection of multimedia works. The exhibition intertwined a mysterious exploration of space and the supernatural energy connected with objects with a strong desire for knowledge. In his work, Alvarez is simultaneously revealing the fictitious character and the false promises of faith and spiritual leaders, as well as researching elements for his personal quest of truth. Many ideas that were part of this exhibition were the result of the artist’s conversations with magician James Randi and Peruvian anthropologist Carlos Castaneda, as well as visits to the NASA Space Flight Center lunar lab in Houston and the Parkes Observatory telescope in Australia. The Visitors was curated by Debra Singer.
