Fred Moten is a writer best known for his work in black studies, performance studies, poetics and literary theory. He has also extensively worked in poetry, and in 2009, he was recognized as one of the “New American Poets” by the Poetry Society of America. His book The Feel Trio (2014) was a finalist for the National Book Award and Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and winner of the California Book Award for poetry. In 2016, he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, examining the social poetics of Afro-diasporic literature and cinema whose form seeks to refuse the distinction between verse and prose. Moten is currently a professor of English at the University of California, Riverside. He participated in the Graphic Reading Room as part of Scaffold Room at The Kitchen in 2015.
