FILMWORKS was a series conceived in 1978 by curator Leonardo Katz with the purpose of showing films by both established and emerging filmmakers and drawing attention to avant-garde American cinema. The 1980 edition of the festival featured artists such as Bruce Conner, David Haxton, Yvonne Rainer, and Anita Thatcher.
