Vijay Iyer is a prominent American pianist, Grammy-nominated composer, and 2013 MacArthur Fellow. A polymath well-versed in the sciences, humanities and the arts, he works across disciplines, with particular focuses on jazz and creative music. The Vijay Iyer Trio, featuring Iyer on piano; Marcus Gilmore on drums; and Stephan Grump on bass, won the 2010 ECHO award for best international ensemble. Iyer is also a frequent collaborator, having worked with such artists as Steve Coleman, Tyshawn Sorey, Dead Prez, DJ Spooky, and Ambrose Akinmusire.
