Juniper Tree

From October 27–30, 1977, The Kitchen presented Joan Jonas’s Juniper Tree, the artist’s first performance created primarily with children in mind. In the work, Jonas and three other performers used the text of a Brothers Grimm fairytale to deconstruct a story of an archetypal evil mother and her family. Jonas mobilized text, narrative, and performance in this work.
