When Things Get Rough on Easy Street was a solo exhibition by artist Joseph Nechvatal that took place in The Kitchen’s gallery space in the winter of 1982. The exhibition incorporated directed lighting, video, sound and drawing as a plea for disarmament. The work demonstrated Nechvatal’s interest in the relationship between political, non-violent activism and artistic production, offering commentary on strategic arms build-ups and the prospect of nuclear war.
