Okwui Okpokwasili

Okwui Okpokwasili is a New York-based writer, performer and choreographer who employs an interdisciplinary lens to examine issues of culture and identity. She focuses on how stories are carried through the body and shared with other individuals, attempting to physically manifest a condition that exists as an immaterial psychic phenomenon. She often partners with Peter Born, with whom she creates raw and multidisciplinary works. She has appeared as actor in works by Richard Maxwell, Young Jean Lee, and Julie Taymore among others. Okpokwasili maintains an ongoing collaboration with artist Ralph Lemon, and was integral to the creation and performance of Scaffold Room at The Kitchen in 2015.
