On January 25, 1976, The Kitchen held a literary performance event billed as a “Reading,” featuring works by writers Kathy Acker and Constance DeJong.
DeJong launched her innovative prose work Modern Love in a presentation which incorporated live reading and pre-recorded materials including music and a cameo by David Warrilow. Acker presented her new work Florida, 1976, a short novel drawing heavily from John Huston’s film noir Key Largo. Acker’s Florida, 1976 deconstructed the original screenplay into its base sexual politics.
