Matter Out of Place was a group exhibition held at The Kitchen, featuring new painting, video, sculptures, and installations by New York-based artists who observe and activate public sites. The works on display examined private and alternative relationships to strictly defined public spaces such as parks and museum lobbies. The show, curated by Lumi Tan, provided a space for observers to think about time and space in an urban setting and the relationship between personal experience and public space.
