Susan Rethorst

Susan Rethorst is an internationally recognized dancer, choreographer, writer, and teacher currently based in Philadelphia, PA. Her work in modern and contemporary dance explores movement created from the body’s inherent knowledge and habits, subtly exaggerating the patterns of the everyday. She explores ways of moving that capture essence without over-explanation, allowing for audience interpretation and personalization. Rethorst has received numerous awards for her choreography and initiated several educational programs at universities across the United States and Europe. Beginning in the late 1970s, she frequently performed and developed work at The Kitchen.
