Mary Heilmann is a New York based artist known primarily for her abstract paintings, in addition to her work with furniture, ceramics, and photography. Heilmann draws inspiration from countless sources, but most notably from mass media and her own imagination. Throughout her career she has created compositions that incorporate saturated colors that might appear on cartoon programs or from a computer screen, in addition to experimenting with different paint textures. In 2006, Heilmann received the Anonymous Was a Woman Foundation Award and is widely known today as towering figure in abstract painting. She first showed at The Kitchen in 1981 in a group exhibition entitled, “More Portraits.” For more information, please visit: http://www.303gallery.com/artists/mary-heilmann
