Spalding Gray was was an American actor, playwright, screenwriter, performance artist and monologist. He was a major influence in NYC avant-garde theater scene due to his involvement with the Wooster Group which he co-founded in 1975. "ROUTE 1 & 9" was debuted by the Wooster Group at The Kitchen in 1987, and he performed one of his signature monologues, God is Dead My Radio, in 1981.
