Marian Zazeela is known for her work in various mediums ranging from sculpture, installation, painting, calligraphic drawing, light projection, and music. She is widely acclaimed as one of the first artists to explore light projection as an artistic medium. Much of her work has been in collaboration with her partner and spouse, La Monte Young. She performed and collaborated with him in two performances at The Kitchen. One performance was Preview of the New LP Recording (1971) where Zazeela played the bowed gong and sang. Zazeela also produced and exhibited her work with Young in a work called Dream House (1974) at The Kitchen. For this work the artist sang and created a physical and light installation while Young sang and produced sine waves with the Theatre of Eternal Music group: a music group started by Young, of which Zazeela was a member.
