Music for Electrified Instruments and Voices

Jeffrey Lohn’s Music for Electrified Instruments and Voices debuted at The Kitchen as part of the “Contemporary Music Series” in 1979. The performance consisted of two compositions: “Music for 2 Electric Keyboards” and “Music for Electric String Sextet, Guitar, Percussion, and Female Chorus.” “Electric Keyboards” featured Lohn on electric harpsichord and Margaret Dewys playing the electric organ. The second composition–a work for electric string sextet, guitar, percussion, and female chorus–was conducted by Julius Eastman. Through the use of a variety of instruments and techniques, both compositions combined classical and contemporary styles.
