Remote Viewing

Install1

Cauleen Smith had her New York solo debut at The Kitchen with this video installation, Remote Viewing. The videos all attempted to situate specific land art of the 1970s into a historical framework. The staged land art took place in California during the 2008 financial crisis, specifically on construction sites that had to be stalled. The sites had a memorial or burial function imbued with a sense of loss, displacement, and absence. This exhibition was curated by Rashida Bumbray.
