(A) Drift of Politics (Two Women are Active, in a space), was an installation by video artist Dara Birnbaum. Employing segments of both films and videos, (A) Drift of Politics (Two Women are Active, in a space) began with a scene selected from the popular television show, Laverne and Shirley, in which the two female protagonists slowly became animated through the use of television structural language systems. As the video progressed, different segments became restructured while the sound was isolated. In this installation, Birnbaum combined television, a media that symbolized American mass culture, with her video art to challenge the gendered bias and appropriation of television in 1970s.
