Rodney McMillian is a multimedia artist who broadly explores American culture, specifically its intersections of race, class, gender, and socioeconomics. The artist uses post-consumer objects—which often belong to the domain of the home—to enhance the physical and psychological repercussions that social, political, and economic decisions have on bodies. His works focuses on the materiality and the tactility of the objects, as well as on the relationship between inner and outer space, creating landscapes for the exploration of questions related to identity and collective history. In 2008, McMillian had a solo exhibition at The Kitchen, which was curated by Rashida Bumbray.
