Juniper Tree

On October 27-30, 1977, The Kitchen presented Joan Jonas’s Juniper Tree, the artist’s first performance created primarily with children in mind. In the work, Jonas and three other performers used the text of a Brothers Grimm fairytale to deconstruct a story of an archetypal evil mother and her family. Jonas mobilized text, narrative, and performance in this work.
