Based on the short story A Portrait of Shunkin by modern Japanese writer Junichiro Tanizaki, Big Dance Theater's danced adaptation dramatized the love affair between a talented, if blind musician and her long-time student. Directed by Paul Lazar and choreographed by Annie-B Parson, Shunkin also featured music by long-time Kitchen regular Glenn Branca.
