On May 14 and 15, the work of Derrick Adams and Narcissister was presented on double-bill at The Kitchen. Adams’ piece Go Stand Next To The Mountain was a suite of live performances that explored the relationships between man and monument. The works included elements of masquerade, dance, sound, video, and sculptural installation, and incorporated a variety of pop culture references from the 1970s to the present. Narcissister, whose work deals with the topics of race, gender, and sexuality, presented This Masquerade, a series of performances that featured a cast of masked performers and explored pop culture’s misleading ideas of black femininity.
