bal'OCCHI

Luigi Ontani presented bal'OCCHI, the title of which plays with the Italian words for toy, dance, eyes, and Bali, at the The Kitchen on March 30, 1983. The tableau vivant lasted 13 minutes, during which Ontani lay on the ground, a circle marked around him with rocks, his body covered by Balinese masks. While Ontani lay still, save for his breathing, wall-sized projections of black-and-white eyes gazed upon his performance. Smaller projections of changing images traced over the entire room.
