Xavier Le Roy is a dancer and choreographer based in Paris, France. Though he holds a doctorate in molecular biology, Le Roy has worked exclusively as an artist since 1991, creating work that explores the boundaries between familiar and foreign, audience and performer, absurd and poignant. Le Roy’s work is often site-specific and created in collaboration with his performers or with artists working in different media. Le Roy performed in the series Les Spectacles Vivants co-presented by The Kitchen and Downtown Arts in 2000 and at The Kitchen with Giszelle (2001) and Self-Unfinished (1998) in 2002. Self-Unfinished and Product of Circumstances (1999) exposed new possibilities for the choreographer and the solo dancer, reimagining what it means to have a body, to set choreography, and to create images using the human form.
