Ton Simons is a Dutch-born dancer and choreographer. After his studies at the Rotterdam Dance Academy, he moved to New York City to work with Merce Cunningham for a year. In 1982 Simons began his own dance group Ton Simons & Dancers and ran the company in New York for 14 years. With his interest in the development of dance constructions of variable scale and range, as well as, shifting time and spatial relationships, Ton Simons & Dancers performed Tally, The Knife Sharpener, and Spread as part of the program Dancing in The Kitchen, at The Kitchen in 1982. From 1982 to 1999 he worked as a choreographer with Werkcentrum Dans and De Rotterdamse Dansgroep, soon becoming the artistic director of De Rotterdamse Dansgroep from 1999-2010. Since 2010, he has been working freelance and in 2012 created his first work for the Dutch National Ballet, for the anniversary programme Present/s.
