On April 24–27, 1986, Maya Deren In Context, a film program by Maya Deren and other filmmakers took place at The Kitchen. Noted as “America’s first public experimental filmmaker” by Village Voice, Maya Deren in context put her films in conversation with their “surrealist precursors as well as their varied successors.”
