In October of 2014, Claire Chase performed "Density 2036: part ii," at The Kitchen. Chase worked with sound engineer Levy Lorenzo, and lighting designer David Michalek, who created the environment which complemented her contemporary articulation of the flute. Chase began her performance with the solo "Density 21.5," by Edgard Varèse. She also debuted five new works: "Meditation and Calligraphy" for solo bass flute (2014), and "Parábolas na Caverna" for solo amplified flute (2014) by Felipe Lara; "Emergent" for solo flute and electronics (2014) by George Lewis; "Beyond (a system of passing)" for solo flute (2013) and Matthias Pintscher; and "an empty garlic" for solo bass flute and electronics" (2014) by Du Yun.
In 2014, in homage to the flute solo "Density 21.5," by Edgard Varèse, world-renowned flutist, Claire Chase started a 22-year project, "Density 2036," whereby she commissions a new piece of music flute music until the year 2036, for 100 year anniversary of the seminal work.
