Space Force is a subsidiary of the larger corporation Ocean Earth Construction and Development Corporation (OECD), an artist-run research and development think tank founded in 1980 to create useable and saleable technology. Artists Peter Fend and Taro Suzuki started Space Force as a means to monitor global hot spots highlighted by policy, news-media, and diplomatic intent via satellite imaging. Their team purchased satellite images that artists analyzed and then sold to media outlets, providing expansive results beyond accounts already made in the mainstream media. Space Force presented the exhibition Art of the State at The Kitchen in 1982.
