Kakuya Ohashi is a Tokyo-based dancer and choreographer. He studied film making at the Image Forum Institute of Moving Image, and first became involved in performance in Vancouver in 1991 where he studied Butoh and choreography. In 1999 he founded Kakuya Shashi and Dancers who, through their choreographed works, explore the question "what is dance?" Ohashi made his United States debut at the Kitchen with his provocative performance Wish You Were Here, a deeply unsettling duet exploring the compulsion and neurosis of Tokyo’s hyper-urban life.
