Bang on a Can
Bang on a Can is a contemporary-classical music group founded in 1987 by Michael Gordon, David Lang, and Julia Wolf. The group is committed to seeking and creating new music through their own compositions and the commissioning of artists from around the world. Bang on a Can is famous for its annual Marathon, a music festival that began in 1987 as a means of breaking down barriers between musical communities. The festival has taken place at venues all over the city including the Kitchen in 1993, featuring John Cage, the Child God, Philip Glass, and Guitars N’ Poets, among others. Bang on a Can also co-produced “Spit Orchestra” (1995) and “the Carbon Copy Building: a Comic Book Opera” (1999) with the Kitchen. For more information please visit http://bangonacan.org/
